INTERESTS
- Interests: Religion, both mine (Christianity) and others. Gardening, both indoor and outdoor. Knitting, sewing, and other types of needlework. Pets: my corn snake (I'm a bit of a reptile rights activist), my cat, and the fish I'm about to get for my dorm room. Healthcare--I used to be an optician and now my major at school is Health Promotion and Wellness. Languages--I'm a Spanish minor. Creative writing of all sorts: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry; I want to do freelance writing as a side career.
- Favorite Music: Christian music, both worship type and Christian rock. Songs from the 50s though the 70s. Anything composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber (who composed Cats and Phantom of the Opera).
- Favorite Movies: Gosh, I don't watch a whole lot of movies. I really like Mel Brooks as a director, though. I like Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein. Another movie I like is Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It's so bad it's good. I do watch TV occasionally. My fave TV shows are Bones, House, Criminal Minds, and Red Dwarf (a British sci fi comedy from back when I was too young ot watch it).
- Favorite Books: The Bible, Jane Eyre and other classic novels, cookbooks, knitting books, anything by Anne McCaffrey (gosh I hope I spelled her last name right) or Mercedes Lackey.
- Books I Want to Read: I want to re-read Plato's dialouges so I can get some more good quotes! (It's amazing how some passages from Symposium have striking parallels with certian Bible passages!) And I want to read some of Terry Pratchert's Discworld series....my mom and sister really like them, but I started out with the least interesting/funny one so I haven't gotten into them yet.
- Favorite Quotes: That quote from Plato about how we don't desire evil in and of itself, but rather we desire evil because we believe it to be good. Don't remember exactly how it's worded, but it says that we want to be (but aren't always) good people. There's lots of Bible passages I could put in here, but then I'd sound like a psycho holy roller. "Shut up, telethingy!" which is a quote said by Bucky Katt (a Siamese mix with major attitude problems) from my favorite comic strip, Get Fuzzy.
- Favorite Foods: Chinese food. Italian food. Barbecue. Most seafood, though I'm super picky about crab, the only kind I'll eat is dungeness crab, and only when it's fresh. A lot of different kinds of fruit--mangoes and raspberries and blueberries and kiwis are my favorites in the grocery store. Hot roasted chestnuts (I'll buy them when my grocery store has them, then roast them in the oven, YUM!) Desserts! I can't eat anything remotely peanutty though cause I'm very allergic to peanuts.
- Favorite Places: Italy--I'd LOVE to go back there someday. Seattle and Port Townsend, WA. Seaside, OR. The Columbia River Gorge. The historic part of Santa Fe. The Jemez Mountains. And Las Vegas, NM (NOT Las Vegas, NV), where I'm attending school a few years late as a transfer student (would be a first semester senior if I'd gone full time right away but I'm a second semester sophmore cause I started out part time at a community college and took a few semesters off here and there).
- Places I Want to Visit: Other European countires besides Italy. And Italy again, like I said before. Costa Rica or somewhere else safe in South or Central America. I want to do a foreign exchange program in a Spanish speaking country so I can get really fluent. Hawaii.
- Anything Else: Pet peeves: people who think New Mexico is a foreign country. And people who refuse to believe that there's a second Las Vegas...it's normal to have never heard of it, but it's totally unnacceptable to refuse to believe it exists! And people who mispronounce words like "jalepeno" and "quesadilla". People who think Taco Bell is real Mexican food. Instances when people use their religions for violence/evil instead of good. Rattlesnake Roundups and the people who put them on.
