Command Sergeant Major Calvin Simmons was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Army in April 1974, completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a Pershing Missile Crewmember in the Field Artillery. He was reclassified as an Intelligence Analyst in 1990 with the deactivation of Pershing due to the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty. He retired from the Army in June 1, 2004. He served combat tours during OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Armored Division (Fwd), VII Corps and during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM with the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, V Corps.
